Abstract: Stoicism provides the practical wisdom of happiness to the modern people. Stoicism can also provide us with the essential source of moral power for the virtues. Both the private virtues and the public virtues are deeply rooted into the Stoicism principles that the moral agents have the ultimate moral freedom of choosing, regardless of the changes of the outer circumstances. To effectively build the virtues, we need to effectively distinguish between what is up to us and what is not up to us. Stoicism has greatly enlightened the development of virtue ethics from two fundamental aspects. On the one hand, Stoicism tells us that we need to make the best use of what is in our own power so that we can truly live the fully virtuous life. On the other hand, Stoicism lets us know that we need to accept what inevitably will happen to us with dignity and a peaceful mind. The Stoicism has also emphasized the importance and value of the freedom of moral choice, which means the innate and firm soul force that can exercise the practical wisdom of life, regardless of the changes of outer circumstances.

Abstract: The emotional dimension of virtues has long been marginalized and even entirely neglected, with too much importance having being attached to the rational dimension of virtues. Emotions constitute the fundamental basis of virtues, supplying endless inner driving force to the formation of virtues. By putting more stress to the cultivation of moral emotions, the effectiveness of moral education in the schools will be dramatically improved and enhanced.

Abstract: Buu Chi is one of the genius artists of modern Vietnamese painting. His works carved profound values in the artist world and painting viewer, both in Vietnam and the world. There is one remarkable characteristic which makes Buu Chi’s paintings becoming specifically is philosophic aspect. His works not only influenced by ‘Yin and Yang’ idea of Book of Changes and ‘impermanence’ idea of Buddhism but also inherited thought of existentialism which deeply impacted on South Vietnam society pre-1975 period. It can be said that, existentialism contributed a noticeable part to create typical sense for Buu Chi’s paintings, especially his oil-paintings. His works are combination of various influcences of existentialist writers, philosophers and painters such as Albert Camus, Franz Kafka, Martin Heidegger and Alberto Giacometti. Some typical themes of existentialism including nothingness and absurdness of the world; transience and aloneness of human; uniqueness and rebellion of the subject; the obsession of time and death... are represented in Buu Chi’s paintings. Therefore, each his painting is a profound expression of human condition in the world. In this article, we analyze and describe the influence of existentialism to Buu Chi’s works which focused on two basic themes including: (1) the solitary and transient condition of human, (2) resistance.

Abstract: Only recently the study of human ‘Proairesis’ has become a respected area of scientific research. However, still today the very starting point of any such inquiry appears exceedingly difficult because the nature of human proairesis seems inherently refractory to explanation, especially in materialistic terms. Following the fundamental suggestions of Epictetus and Euler, the major contribution of this paper consists in the mathematical demonstration that it is possible to understand and treat the human ‘Proairesis’ (the famous ‘egg’ of the Montefeltro altarpiece by Piero della Francesca) as a material entity having the Arithmetic of a natural exponential function written in complex numbers and the Geometry of a square inscribed in a circumference (the famous ‘Homo Vitruvianus’ of Leonardo da Vinci).
